LSU Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness

 

Martin D. Woodin Hall houses the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. This building is also the home base for the college of Agriculture at LSU. In Woodin Hall you can find the dean’s office, student services, student support, research, and the study abroad information office. There are 25 club majors, two of which can be found in Woodin Hall. The Department of Experimental Statistics is also housed within this building.

 

Department of Agricultural & Extension Education & Evaluation

 

J.C. Miller Hall is the hub for Department of Agricultural & Extension Education and Evaluation. This building features classrooms, labs, and Collegiate FFA. Many of the classrooms within the building a very small which gives students the opportunity to get to know each other and experience hands-on activities.

The E.B. Doran Ag Metals Shop offers students hands-on experiences with agricultural mechanics and the basics of carpentry, electricity, metals, welding and small gasoline engines.

School of Animal Sciences

The Animal and Food Science Lab Building houses the School of Animal Sciences. The two-story, 47,750 square foot research laboratory facility features a main lobby, 29 research labs, classrooms and faculty offices. There are also nutrition offices and labs, genetics and disease labs, muscle biology labs, meat science labs, a professional test kitchen, food sensory testing facility and conference rooms.

J. B. Francioni Hall is another component of the animal science program. This building is a state-inspected meat facility that features livestock harvesting, meat production and processing, classrooms and research facilities.

The Dairy Science Building houses a creamery and the LSU AgCenter Dairy Store. The creamery produces a selection of ice cream, meats, cheese, bottled milk and eggnog which are available for purchase within the Dairy Store.

The LSU AgCenter Ben Hur Research Farm is located two miles south of LSU’s main campus and consists of nearly 3,000 acres of farmland and pastures. The focus of this research facility is livestock improvement through breeding and genetics, nutrition, reproductive physiology and animal health. This facility is home to a horse unit, swine unit, poultry unit, goats, sheep and approximately 350 head of cattle.

School of Nutrition & Food Sciences

 

In the Human Ecology Building you can find the LSU School of Nutrition and Food Sciences. Inside the building are labs the which features a full kitchen that includes full-sized stoves, ovens, kitchen-aid mixers and all the equipment one could need to prepare just about any meal. There is also an air garden which grows tomatoes, herbs and lettuce to improve sustainability. The labs are also used to test and create recipes for the Louisiana school system and community.

The Animal and Food Science Lab Building which features food chemistry labs and product development/sensory evaluation facilities. The building also has analysis labs, product processing and development labs and an evaluation room.

The LSU AgCenter Food Incubator features a government-approved commercial kitchen, pilot plant and ample space for tenant freezer, cooler and dry storage needs. Other amenities include office suites, wireless internet service, shipping and receiving area and a conference training room that can be utilized for workshops and meetings.

Knapp Hall is the hub of all activity for the Dietetics program. This building features classrooms, faculty offices, and is the home to departmental clubs.

School of Plant, Environmental & Soil Sciences

Sturgis Hall is home to the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences. This building features classrooms on the first floor, teaching and research labs, departmental offices, student workers offices and department clubs. The labs within Sturgis Hall feature soil monoliths and soil testing equipment. Behind Sturgis Hall is a natural area and stream which students often visit during classes for a variety of demonstrations.

The Horticulture Hill Farm Teaching Facility and University Gardens is a site on the LSU campus that is a formal and informal teaching facility dedicated to horticulture science.  This facility includes a building with a classroom, two labs, and an outdoor hands-on teaching space under cover of the “pole barn.” There is a small demonstration orchard for teaching fruit production, field space for teaching vegetable production and organic gardening, a can yard for teaching nursery crops, a large shade house and a greenhouse for teaching greenhouse crop and hydroponic vegetable production, and box beds for demonstrating organic herb and vegetable gardening.

School of Renewable Natural Resources

 

LSU Department of Renewable Natural Resources is housed within Renewable Natural Resources Building. In this building you will find the main lobby, labs and classrooms. Class and lab sizes within this building are relatively small in order to give students the opportunity to have lots of individualized attention and guidance from faculty. Labs within this building gives students the ability to perform dissections of animals and look at prepared specimens. Many classrooms utilize high-resolution digital cameras to be able to stream specimen identification and 3D scan different bone structures of specimens.

Department of Textiles, Apparel Design & Merchandising

 

The department of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising is housed within the Human Ecology Building. This building boasts several amenities for our students to use during their educational tenure with us. This building is equipped with a 3D printing machine, apparel production lab, body scanning technology, photo lab, technology and computer labs, textile printer, textile science lab, sewing lab and the LSU Textile & Costume Museum.
