Gideon D. Markman is the H. Norman Saurage Jr./Community Coffee Endowed Chair Professor
of Entrepreneurship in the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information
Systems at Louisiana State University. An internationally recognized scholar in entrepreneurship
and strategy, his research examines how entrepreneurs and organizations create, evaluate,
and sustain new ventures. His recent work explores how entrepreneurs and organizations
make consequential judgments under uncertainty, with particular emphasis on meaning-driven
entrepreneurship, venture entry and exit, and innovation in complex systems.
Before joining LSU, Markman served on the faculty at Colorado State University, the
University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the Academy of Management Perspectives
and has held visiting appointments at Ghent University in Belgium and Audencia Business
School in France.
Markman's research has recognized internationally and appeared in many of the leading
management and entrepreneurship journals. Drawing inspiration from important entrepreneurial
and organizational challenges, he develops rigorous theory that helps scholars, entrepreneurs,
and executives better understand how organizations navigate uncertainty, innovate,
and create enduring value.
At LSU, he teaches corporate entrepreneurship, strategy, and business model innovation.
Through teaching, executive education, and applied projects, he has collaborated with
organizations including Amazon, Medtronic, Make-A-Wish, and Kaiser Permanente. He
is committed to developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders through
research, teaching, and doctoral mentorship.
