Graduate Minor in Public Administration

The Department of Public Administration provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective public service leaders. A graduate minor in public administration is available to students pursuing doctoral studies in other fields whose work can be complemented by public administration courses emphasizing work in all levels of government, non-profit organizations, universities, healthcare, and/or private entities that deal with governmental organizations and policy issues.

Minor Professor

Graduate students interested in pursuing a minor in public administration should contact a professor in the Department of Public Administration who can support and advise on minor coursework. The minor professor must be present at all defenses held after the minor is declared and will serve as a member of the student's committee. The minor must be completed before the final defense.

Curriculum

Students will work with their minor professor to select and complete 12 credit hours of PADM courses specific to the graduate student's interests. Six of the 12 credit hours must be 7000-level or above.

Minor students may also obtain scheduling support from their Public Administration graduate advisor. The availability of recommended courses for minor coursework is not guaranteed each semester. For a list of courses offered for a specific semester, please visit LSU's course offerings page.

Graduate students who successfully complete these requirements will have a "Minor in Public Administration" line on their degree transcripts and may list this minor with their major degree on their thesis/dissertation cover page.
