Biography
Chad Seifried, PhD is a Professor and Graduate Coordinator for the School of Kinesiology and Sport Management at the Louisiana State University. Prior to this opportunity, Dr. Seifried was a faculty member for The Ohio State University Graduate Sport Management program (2005-2009). His research interests embrace the use of historical methods to review the management history associated with organizations, individuals, and sport facilities to help highlight the contribution of history within contemporary management settings. Also acting as an advocate for the ‘historic turn’ (i.e., that history can help revise and/or create theory) within management, his work involving facilities primarily reviews innovation and modernization and does so through an interest to better understand the construction and preservation history of sport venues as a commercial attraction. With a special emphasis on the intercollegiate and professional sport contexts in the United States, Dr. Seifried’s work has also looked at tax laws, building codes, leases, and the management of postseason mega events.
Collectively, his work has been published in sport management, marketing, teaching education, law, history, and management journals (e.g., Organization, Journal of Management History, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Macromarketing, Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies, Journal of Strategic Contracting and Negotiations, Journal of Sport Management, Sport Management Review, Journal of Sport History, Sport History Review, Sport Management Education Journal, and Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, among others). Overall, Dr. Seifried has authored over 140 peer-reviewed articles and presentations and several book chapters and university reports. He has also completed over 50 invited lecture opportunities at campuses all over the United States, advised well over 100 graduate students (i.e., doctoral and masters), chaired multiple award committees, and served as the founding faculty member of LSU’s PhD program in Sport Management.
Dr. Seifried is a Research Fellow with the North American Society for Sport Management and College Sport Research Institute. Further, he has been recognized for his outstanding review efforts with journals such as the Journal of Management History and the Academy of Management Learning & Education. Dr. Seifried has also received recognition as an outstanding reviewer by the Academy of Management, Southern Management Association, and Eastern Academy of Management in areas such as Management History, Management Education, and Organizational Theory. Finally, Dr. Seifried serves on numerous editorial boards and currently serves as Editor Emeritus for the Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics and Associated Editor for the Journal of Management History.
