The essays collected in this volume talk about novels, short stories, reportages , feature films and documentaries released several years ago, yet, in light of post-pandemic anxieties, these works remain current, and tell the story of our country directly, with an eye to height-of-man showing subjects in difficulty, short of breath and, in the worst cases, even out of breath. Italian fiction and cinema of the twenty-first century have represented and continue to represent, as a true work in progress , the socioeconomic transformations of our times, bringing to the fore stories of men and women who, for one reason or another, struggle to find a job and, if they have one, they are subjected to constant blackmail.
