Sponsored by the Louisiana Board of Regents and hosted by the LSU Center for Energy Studies, the inaugural Energy Transition Research Symposium aims to bring together energy researchers, companies, policy makers, and regulators from across the state and across disciplines. Participating organizations include Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Louisiana Legislative Auditor, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Tech University, McNeese State University, Southern University, Tulane University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and University of New Orleans. Representatives from all fields are welcome and encouraged to attend. Out-of-state stakeholders whose work focuses on Louisiana energy issues are also invited to participate.

Motivation and Format of Symposium

The energy sector is the cornerstone of Louisiana’s economy. From oil and gas extraction, power generation, to the processing of hydrocarbons into liquid fuels, plastics, chemicals, fertilizers and more, the energy sector employs thousands of Louisiana workers and easily pays in aggregate over a billion dollars in taxes to state and local governments.

It is therefore not surprising that Louisiana’s universities employ researchers at the frontier of energy research. These researchers are geographically dispersed across the state and span many disciplines, including sciences, engineering, and social sciences.

The goal of this symposium is to serve as an opportunity for collaboration across universities and academic disciplines. Industry and governmental stakeholders are encouraged to collaborate outside of academics. Presentation lengths will likely be shorter than that of a typical academic-style conference (specific format to be provided once program is finalized), and presenters are encouraged to consider the interdisciplinary nature of the audience when preparing. Sufficient time for discussing research outside of organized sessions will be incorporated into the agenda.

Conference Proceedings

All submissions will be subject to peer review to determine acceptance into the symposium. Please note, though, that papers will not be included in a Conference Proceedings. Participation in the conference will not preclude work from being published in a peer-reviewed journal in the future.
