FALL 2013

The Graduate Student Showcase
Friday 9/6 @ 7:30 PM

We open our season with a showcase of our stellar graduate students' performances.

Close Cover Before Striking
Created and Performed by John LeBret
Thursday 9/26 through Saturday 9/28 @ 7:30 PM

A mysterious collection of matchbooks, left by his grandparents, ignites both a scholar's curiosity and an artist's imagination.  This unexpected encounter with history and the archive contrasts our drives to remember and forget with the human need to create.

The Christ-Haunted South
Adapted and Directed by Tracy Stephenson Shaffer
Wednesday 10/16 through Saturday 10/19 @ 7:30 PM
Sunday 10/20 @ 2:30 PM

Flannery O'Connor called the south "Christ-haunted," an apt description of this collection of performed short stories about the contemporary south.  Not only does the ghost of Christianity reveal itself in each tale, but a creepy bunch of everyday "monsters" shows up too.

The French New Wave Project
Produced by Patricia A. Suchy
Saturday 11/2 @ 7:30 PM

In the late 1950s young French directors revolted against the cinema du papa and launched a revolutionary nouvelle vague.  In 2013, LSU students launch their own next wave in a showcase of video projects shot on location in Paris.  Presented in English, in association with the Foreign Language Film Conference.

SPRING 2014

How to End Poverty in 60 Minutes
Sojourn Theatre with Artistic Director Michael Rohd
Friday 2/21 @ 4:30 PM & Saturday 2/22 @ 7:30 PM

It's not a play, a lecture, an interactive workshop, a physical theatre piece, or a public conversation; it's all these things.  Following its premiere at Northwestern University in spring 2013, Sojourn Theatre is building a model of the show that can be re-mounted in collaboration with communities around the country through partnerships with artists, local non-arts partners and host universities or theaters.  LSU is one of the first sites in this re-imagined journey, and the week-long residency will culminate in this workshop performance.

The Mixon Lyceum Spring Showcase
Tuesday 3/11 @ 7:30 PM

Our Speech and Debate Team showcases its top competitors.

Avalanches & centre/fugue
Created and Performed by Ariel Gratch and Lyndsay Michalik
Thursday 3/27 through Saturday 3/29 @ 7:30 PM

In Avalanches, whether it's climbing literal or figurative, personal or cultural mountains, each climb presents rewards, but is also fraught with dangers.  Inspired by the artwork of M.C. Escher, centre/fugue is a surreal journey through a wonderland of strange loops, fugues and fugue states, math and art, chaos and simplicity.

The Spring Undergraduate Showcase
Wednesday 4/30 @ 7:30 PM

The season finale: a celebration of the short performances and videos created by our students.
