Graduate Minors
The Department of Sociology confers formal minors to PhD students in other departments. A student has to take 12 credits from the Department of Sociology. Three credits must be earned in either Contemporary Sociological Theory (SOCL 7131) or Classical Sociological Theory (SOCL 7121) and three more credits must be earned in an Independent Study directed by the Minor Professor. The remaining six credits are electives at the graduate level, approved by the Minor Professor.
PhD students in sociology also have the option of earning formal minors in other related disciplines, including multidisciplinary programs like Women's and Gender Studies.
