One year after the Valdez incident, the president signed the Oil Pollution Act of
1990 (OPA) into law. A primary goal of OPA is to expand prevention and preparedness

Coastal Restoration and Enhancement through Science and Technology
The Coastal Restoration and Enhancement through Science and Technology program (CREST)
was established in 2001 as an alliance of academic institutions within southern Louisiana
and Mississippi. The aim of the alliance is to create a cooperative program to help
policymakers, planners and coastal resource managers use the latest science and best
technologies to ensure sustainable and productive coastal habitats and communities.

Available from LOSCO is the Louisiana GIS Digital Map – Compilation DVD Set. The Louisiana GIS Digital
map is a compilation of publicly available geospatial data for oil spill prevention,
contingency planning, response and natural resource assessment. The DVD set is a collection
of geospatial data suitable for use in geographic information system (GIS) software.
Users must have GIS software to access, display and use the data. However, ArcReader

LUMCON - Dispersants Bibliography
This database consists of citations found in journals, conference proceedings, government
reports and gray literature covering over 40 years of published research on oil spill
dispersants. The bibliography was compiled and edited by John Conover, Associate Librarian
at LUMCON. Citation data is stored and maintained at LUMCON by the Information and
