BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts announced it has named Pamela Pike, Herndon Spillman Professor of Piano Pedagogy in the LSU School of Music, as the new Associate Dean of Research, Creative Practice, and Community Engagement, effective Oct. 18.
In her new role, Pike will collaborate with all areas of the College and other LSU entities such as the Office of Research and Economic Development to document and publicize research and other creative activity, as well as foster the growth and dissemination of grant opportunities by establishing useful performance metrics and a strong management structure.
“I am honored to serve as the first Associate Dean of Research, Creative Practice and Community Engagement in the College of Music & Dramatic Arts,” Pike said. “I look forward to connecting our faculty and students with campus and community opportunities, highlighting their outstanding work, and supporting meaningful community engagement with the creative and performing arts.”
In addition to her new responsibilities as Associate Dean, Pike will continue to serve as the Spillman Professor of Piano Pedagogy, coordinating the group-piano and piano pedagogy program. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Southern Illinois University, and the University of Oklahoma, Pike has extensive experience teaching piano to students of all ages, both privately and in group settings. She was the 2019 winner of the LSU Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award, has won various awards for her teaching in Arkansas and Louisiana, and is dedicated to helping pedagogy students develop skills necessary to become successful piano teachers. Pike has also published over three dozen scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Psychology of Music, the International Journal of Music Education, and more.
“I am excited to see Pam Pike begin her newly expanded role with our College,” said Kristin Sosnowsky, Interim Dean of the College of Music & Dramatic Arts. “Pam is at the forefront of research in music pedagogy. Her extensive experience in publicizing scholarship and research at the highest levels, paired with an intimate knowledge of our College’s exemplary faculty and students, will greatly enhance our efforts to build engaging connections with the community and attract new, groundbreaking grant opportunities to LSU.”
