QEP for Reaffirmation of Accreditation 2024
Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
SACSCOC requires institutions to develop a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). A key component of the reaffirmation of accreditation process, the QEP is a plan of action to improve student knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and/or behaviors. The QEP requirements are defined in the following SACSCOC principle of accreditation:
- 7.2 The institution has a QEP that (a) has a topic identified through its ongoing, comprehensive planning and evaluation processes; (b) has broad-based support of institutional constituencies; (c) focuses on improving specific student learning outcomes and/or student success; (d) commits resources to initiate, implement, and complete the QEP; and (e) includes a plan to assess achievement. Based on evidence demonstrated via LSU’s strategic priorities, analysis of assessment findings, and exploratory activities with various constituent groups throughout the Spring and Summer semesters, we have selected undergraduate communication skills development as LSU’s 2024 QEP topic by scaling up the university’s inaugural QEP 2004, Communication across the Curriculum (CxC) program. CxC has been named as the primary coordinating unit for LSU’s QEP and have information available on their webpage.
Communication skills are essential across all disciplines as they are a conduit through which we develop and demonstrate analytical, collaboration, creativity, leadership, adaptability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Beyond the direct impacts communication-intensive (C-I) programming has on student learning, preliminary data suggest LSU undergraduate students who are exposed to C-I courses are more likely to graduate on time.
The QEP Core Development team and other subcommittee will meet to develop the full QEP proposal and meet the following deadlines:
- Initial Submission: September 1, 2023
- Final Proposal: January 2024
- QEP Implementation: Fall 2024
