Refine your skillsets and learn new techniques to ensure you are as prepared as possible for All-State competition! Join the LSU School of Music's brass faculty for a morning of masterclasses covering fundamentals and Louisiana All-State etude preparation, plus a special performance by the LSU Faculty Brass Quintet.
Please plan to bring your own instruments and prepared etudes. There is no fee to attend the All-State Brass Workshop, but registration is required.

Meet The Faculty
Johanna Yarbrough
Johanna Yarbrough joined the Louisiana State University music faculty as the Julian R. & Sidney Nicolle Caruth Assistant Professor of French Horn in 2024. Prior to her appointment at LSU, she was a member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra beginning in 2012.
Charles Goodman
Charlie Goodman holds the principal tuba chair of Sinfonia Gulf Coast, based in Destin, Florida, and has previously held similar positions in the Valdosta and Albany (GA) Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed with the Colorado Symphony, Ann Arbor Symphony, Orquesta Filharmonica de Jalisco, the Round Top Festival Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. He is a member of Isomer Quartet, whose debut album of new transcriptions for tuba euphonium quartet, entitled New Folder, was released in 2022.
Ross Alhorn
International performing artist, Dr. Ross Ahlhorn, currently serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Louisiana State University, and the principal trumpeter of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Ahlhorn has previously held teaching positions at the University of Central Arkansas, Washington and Lee University, Southern Virginia University, and James Madison University.
Arie VandeWaa
Arie VandeWaa has worked as a freelance trombonist in the Southeast since 2010 and has performed on both tenor and bass trombone with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and Mobile Opera, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra, The Mobile Big Band Society, The Druid City Big Band, The Pensacola Jazz Society, and the Southeast Chamber Orchestra, as well as various Jazz, Commercial, Second Line, and Chamber ensembles throughout the Gulf Coast area.
